The Outer Worlds Officially Releases on Steam, GOG | Game Rant
The Outer Worlds is finally available to purchase through Steam and the GOG store after a year of exclusivity on the Epic Games Store.
Released in October last year, The Outer Worlds was part of a big push by Epic to have exclusive titles on its digital storefront, which has continued with recently announced games like Darkest Dungeon 2, much to the ire of fans looking to play The Outer Worlds on Steam.
Obsidian Entertainment was purchased by Microsoft before the release of The Outer Worlds. While the game came out on competitive platforms, it's currently unknown if future games will be exclusive to Xbox. The developer has announced a new title in development called Avowed, a fantasy RPG based on the Pillars Of Eternity franchise, which could be considered a key competitor to Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series.
In a surprise announcement, Microsoft purchased ZeniMax Media earlier this year, meaning both Bethesda and Obsidian are under one roof. Since the purchase, many fans have shared excitement about a possible sequel to Obsidian Entertainment's Fallout: New Vegas, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. While nothing has been confirmed, Obsidian did comment on the situation with a shrugging emoji on Twitter.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch version of The Outer Worlds recently received a new patch that improves the visuals of the game. Players will see a better sky-box, better use of depth of field during conversations and key moments, and more flora and fauna overall. The update also addresses some key issues in The Outer Worlds with NPC AI, and implements some re-designed buildings throughout the world.
The release of The Outer Worlds was met with an overall positive response from fans and critics alike. The smaller scope of the game was well received, with many celebrating the game's tighter story and unique sense of humor. Industry insiders have indicated that a sequel to The Outer Worlds is currently in pre-production, but while no further details have been announced, it's likely that a new game would developed for next-gen consoles, or at least the Xbox Series X.
Fans of The Outer Worlds can also download the latest DLC for the game titled Peril on Gorgon. As the first of two DLC packs, the Peril on Gorgon expansion is available now and offers an additional story for the game with new locations, more unique weapons, and absurd characters.
The Outer Worlds is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
