Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Nuketown '84 Easter Egg Leaked Online
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players are awaiting the release of a new map. Nuketown '84 is a fresh take on one of the Call of Duty franchise's most popular maps, themed as if it were set in a nostalgic version of the year 1984. The map won't be available until November 24, but some players have snuck into the new map early, and these Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players with early access have already discovered a fun Easter egg.
The Easter egg is earned by doing something that will come naturally to most Call of Duty players. In order to activate the Easter egg, players have to scour the entire Nuketown '84 map and shoot the heads off of all the mannequins spread throughout. There are a good number of these mannequins, so it's not something that will happen by accident, or at least without a planned effort.
Once all of the mannequins are taken care of, a new visual filter is activated. It's a vaporwave aesthetic, based on a 1984 neon punk style with dark skies, a pink horizon, and thick blue lines outlining the player and all elements of the environment. There's even a classy 1984 electronic track with lots of space-y sound effects. By all accounts, the rest of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War match is played entirely with this filter active.
While this mode is an Easter egg, it's not necessarily one intended to be kept secret for an extended period of time. In fact, the Nuketown '84 teaser trailer clearly points players in the right direction as a mannequin is shown getting its head shot off in a very distinct and obvious way. It's no surprise that those who got early access to the map discovered the Easter egg this easily.
To be clear, no one should have access to the Nuketown '84 map as of yet. As such, no one should have been able to discover the Easter egg, either. Activision has been working to get footage removed, but the cat's out of the bag on this particular leak.
Luckily, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players won't have to wait long to try the map for themselves. Nuketown '84 launches on November 24 as a free update for all players, so they will be able to experience a vaporwave Nuketown dreamscape all for themselves starting then.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
