Overwatch Fan Creates Impressive Toy Story Woody McCree Skin Concept
Fans of multiplayer, character-driven games have long been creating their own custom character skin ideas. Many of those concepts combine them with other facets of popular culture, such as one Apex Legends concept turning Revenant into Star Wars' General Grievous. Yesterday, one Overwatch fan unveiled their take on the game's infamous gunslinger McCree as Woody from the blockbuster Pixar series Toy Story.
Andy Bohan is the general manager for the Celtic Wolfhounds, Ireland's Overwatch World Cup team, but they also create content for the game through the Overwatch Workshop as well as 3D models and animations in Blender. On October 16, Bohan posted the first two custom skins in what has now become a series of Overwatch and Toy Story crossovers, featuring Baptiste as Buzz Lightyear and Soldier 76 as a Toy Soldier - the little green army men.
The Woody McCree skin has plenty of fun details, from its shiny plastic hair to having Andy's signature on the bottom of its left boot, and it stands out when animated to dance against the clear-sky backdrop made famous by Pixar's groundbreaking Toy Story franchise. If Blizzard Entertainment and Disney ever made a crossover agreement, it seems like this skin could fit perfectly, and Bohan has plenty more ideas going forward.
In a series of follow-up posts on Twitter, Bohan provides high-quality images of the skin in various poses to use as a desktop wallpaper, and they offered up four additional Overwatch skin ideas in a poll. Based on the results, Bohan's next project will be a Jessie skin for Ashe, but the poll also suggests more down the line including a Bo Peep skin for Mercy, a Zerg skin for Reaper, and a Bullseye skin for Orisa.
As of now, fans of Blizzard's team-based shooter are waiting for more news about its sequel announced during last year's BlizzCon and all of the new character skins it might contain. The current game is still seeing updates and events in the meantime, such as the recent Halloween Terror 2020 event, and its developers are combating toxicity using machine learning.
No matter what the future holds for Overwatch, fans like Bohan will undoubtedly continue to try and leave their mark with custom designs. Fan creativity can be found in ideas for all aspects of the video game industry, from adjusting characters in popular games to creating custom consoles like a recent Cyberpunk 2077-themed Game Boy.
Overwatch is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
