Some PlayStation 5 Consoles Have Begun Shipping to Customers
With the launch of the console just a few days away, many PlayStation fans are now anxiously awaiting updates for their PS5 pre-orders. For those that ordered the new console directly through Sony, it's a good time to check on the order status, as it appears that the first batch of PS5 consoles has shipped.
Buyers are now reporting emails from Sony stating that their consoles are on the way, finally being moved from shipping warehouses to homes all across the world. With the November 12 PS5 release date nearly here, the consoles arriving on doorsteps in time for the official launch feels well within reach, though Sony does note in emails that it's possible there could be delays due to current circumstances.
Those hoping to get their consoles earlier, as some Xbox Series X fans have, are out of luck. It appears that Sony has specifically instructed carriers not to deliver the item until November 12, so it's unlikely that the system will show up any earlier than that. Of course, carriers do make mistakes, and it is always possible that it will make its way through the cracks, which would sweeten the deal a little bit.
The console should require a signature for it to be delivered, so anyone waiting for this system should be prepared to stay at home for the day. This is the norm for high-cost items, and while it's a bit inconvenient, it's a lot safer than running the risk of the console being stolen from the front porch of one's home. Not only does that mean losing the system, but PS5 stock will be low for quite some time, so even a replacement console may be hard to come by until further notice.
The buildup to the PS5 has been massive. Sony has been teasing the console for over a year, finally revealing the massive size back in June. Since then, the console has been projected to be more popular than the Xbox Series X, though it's still far too early to tell if that will be the case. It's kicking off a multi-year console generation, and a lot can change in that time.
PS5 and Xbox Series X pre-orders sold out almost instantly, so both consoles are in a strong position. Luckily, Xbox Series X shipping is also changing, so fans of both consoles should have their systems in no time. The Series X releases a few days earlier, so those buyers will have a few days extra with their next-gen system.
The PS5 releases on November 12.
