Apex Legends Hits Impressive Milestone on Steam | Game Rant
Apex Legends Season 7, Ascension, began less than a week ago. Season 7 not only introduced a new playable legend, a new map, and a series first in drivable vehicles, but also introduced the game to a playerbase of millions on Steam.
The game became available on Steam not even five days ago, and already it has passed a major milestone with over 100,000 concurrent players on Steam. This is enough to place it in the top 10 for player count, according to Steam statistics. Apex Legends topped out today at 116,660 concurrent players, putting it at number five behind the likes of multiplayer titans Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Rocket League and the popular 2020 hit Among Us.
This is great company to be in, but it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given that Apex Legends is on its way to becoming a billion-dollar franchise in the near future, according to EA COO and CFO Blake Jorgensen. The game is only going to continue to grow as it comes to more platforms, with a mobile release planned before the end of 2022.
Apex Legends was also supposed to release on the Nintendo Switch at the same time as the Steam version of the game, but developer Respawn Entertainment delayed the Switch version to 2021, citing technical issues.
Apex Legends Season 7 is a hit among fans so far, with many loving the new map, cosmetics and buffs to characters like Loba and Pathfinder. One thing players aren’t crazy about, however, is the changes Apex Legends' Battle Pass, which according to many players made leveling up and unlocking things too difficult. The level of backlash Respawn received was enough to prompt the studio to halve the difficulty of challenges.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One with Mobile, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S versions in development
