Watch Dogs: Complete Edition Rated for PS5, Xbox Series X
Watch Dogs Legion launched this past week on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. It was well-received, and might be the most in-demand game in the Watch Dogs franchise yet. It's perhaps no surprise, then, that a new ESRB rating hints that Ubisoft could be planning to capitalize on that excitement by bringing Watch Dogs Complete Edition to the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
This Complete Edition has been available for some time on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, bundling the full game with all of its DLC, including Bad Blood, Conspiracy!, Hack the City, and Street Justice. The difference in the ESRB rating is that, in addition to these older platforms, the PS5 and "Xbox Series" are also listed as supported.
Otherwise, it doesn't seem that there are any changes or important details to be found in the rating. It breaks down the story of Aiden Pearce, noting aspects of the game that gives it its M rating including violence, nudity, and strong language. It also mentions that multiplayer will be supported, as the game has free-roam multiplayer and invasions. It also mentions that it will feature in-game purchases. Given that it's a Complete Edition, it's unclear what these in-app purchases will be.
The ESRB rating does not contain any sort of release date for the next-gen version of the Watch Dogs Complete Edition. Given that it hasn't been officially announced, it's likely some time away. A Watch Dogs rerelease would probably not be something Ubisoft would want to release this November given the glut of new titles, but perhaps December or early 2021 would be a better fit.
One more question that needs to be answered is what kind of improvements Watch Dogs fans might be able to look forward to on PS5 and Xbox Series X. It would be easy for Ubisoft to simply issue a free update for the game, but it's potentially doing a full rerelease instead. Hopefully, that means there are some bigger improvements than just faster loading times, 4K resolution, and higher frame rates.
It should also be clarified that this doesn't necessarily mean Watch Dogs Complete Edition will be released on its own, though it could be. Watch Dogs Legion recently confirmed that Watch Dogs Complete Edition would be offered as part of its Season Pass. The ESRB rating could simply be a part of that, updated for Watch Dogs Legion's pending release on next-gen consoles.
Watch Dogs is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
