World of Warcraft: How to Get the Glimr Battle Pet | Game Rant
World of Warcraft players have confronted many powerful and awe-inspiring creatures over the years, but none were as resilient as the Murloc race. These amphibious foes first appeared during Warcraft 3's story and have returned in nearly every WoW expansion since. The iconic status of Murlocs has made them unofficial mascots of Warcraft, and Blizzard has even allowed players to obtain smaller individuals as pets over the years.
While most Murloc pets were part of Blizzcon or other special promotions, a select few can be found in-game by completing difficult tasks. Although recent expansions have already increased the number of free Murloc pets, a new purple one has just been added for players to collect. As the secret-finding community discovered, any interested adventurers can head out to Northrend during the Shadowlands pre-patch to get the Glimr battle pet.
First, players must go to Venture Bay in the southwest corner of the Grizzly Hills zone. Fly over to the glaciers sticking out of the ocean and look for a Glimmerfin Scout. Getting near this NPC will cause it to flee, but not before leaving behind a Glimmerfin Scale that offers a quest. The scale will disappear shortly after the Murloc runs away, but it will respawn after a few minutes. Note that many characters may be waiting or blocking the item with cosmetics on higher population and merged servers, but players can do this on lower population or RP servers to lessen the number of people in the area.
The scale then directs adventurers to King Mrgl-Mrgl in Borean Tundra on the other side of Northrend. He suggests befriending this new group of Murlocs by looting Meaty Crab Chunks from crabs around the Venture Bay area. Thankfully, all World of Warcraft players receive 3 Elixirs of Water Breathing from the previous quest so they won't have to swim back up for air. After gathering 10 crab chunks, head to the quest marker to meet the Glimmerfin Murlocs inside an underwater shipwreck.
Glimmergut, the leader of these Murlocs, accepts the gift but then has players get a Pile of Blubberfat from Horker, a nearby seal on the surface. After bringing it back and then delivering this fat to the nearby Glimmerscale Oracle, the next quest requires grabbing the Giant Pearl which is guarded by a patrolling Gem-Eyes in deeper water. It is recommended to use a Druid or have underwater mounts because the pearl is located past the fatigue boundary which will drown players if they take too long. Gem-Eyes has an incredibly small aggro radius, but players can also use crowd control on this snake to guarantee it won't attack while looting the pearl.
Once the pearl is brought back, players must defeat Trainer Grrglin, a Murloc pet battler. Grrglin will send out an aquatic, critter, and aquatic pet in that order so use flying and beast pets to swiftly defeat them. The penultimate quest then requires collecting 3 piles of seaweed located in fatigue waters.
Electrified seaweed surrounding each item will deal significant damage and knockback characters that touch it, but players can swim over or between the strands. Finally, the Glimmerscale Oracle asks players to prove their strength one last time by slaying the Great Mua'kin near the shipwreck. Returning in victory awards Glimr's Cracked Egg which allows heroes to summon the purple Murloc whenever they want.
Since Glimr's questline is nowhere as complicated as Jenafur's puzzling discovery, many players will be delighted to obtain another Murloc pet, especially without difficulty. Furthermore, this recent inclusion hopefully means Blizzard is planning to add many more battle pets in Shadowlands and older parts of Azeroth as the expansion rolls on.
World of Warcraft is available on PC. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands releases on November 23rd.
