Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies Allows Players To Pet Dogs
The Die Maschine Zombies map in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War boasts some memorable easter eggs, but one surpasses the others in terms of cuteness. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have discovered that the map’s terrifying plaguehounds can be pet if a few simple steps are carried out.
Ever since Shi No Numa, the third Zombies map ever released by Treyarch, fans of Call of Duty Zombies have heard the iconic “fetch me their souls” dialogue every 6 rounds or so. While an updated version of Shi No Numa is rumored to be arriving in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 2, the dogs introduced in the classic map already exist in the latest version of Zombies. Sporting a gruesome new look and leaving poison behind them after death, the plaguehounds are a bit more threatening than their hellhound ancestors.
Despite this, the players searching for a remaining shred of cuteness from the mutated dogs can still find it, as it is entirely possible to pet the beasts. Like Die Maschine’s Coffin Dance easter egg, plaguehound petting is surprisingly easy to do, as players will only need to secure the Brain Rot Pack-A-Punch upgrade. From there, a plaguehound needs to be left alive until the end of the round, with players turning the last survivor of the undead waves to their side using brain rot.
From there, players can pet to their heart’s content, though only for the next several seconds. As shown in a brief tutorial video from YouTuber MrRoflWaffles, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans will only get a little bit of time to bond with their friendly plaguehound before it explodes. If players want to add to the cuteness, jumping into the Jingle Hells playlist would be a wise idea, as it adds a reindeer design to the petable plaguehounds.
This Call of Duty Zombies easter egg joins an incredibly long list of games where animals can be pet. The growing trend can be seen in the Assassin’s Creed series with various animals, while Baldur’s Gate 3 goes quite a bit further by letting players pet the dog 400 thousand times. Hades allows players to pet Cerberus, with Ghost of Tsushima giving players the chance to pet foxes after they successfully lead Jin to a charm.
While Die Maschine features an intricate main quest easter egg as well, it is this simple bout of dog petting that is winning the hearts of Zombies players. If players would like to pet the dog themselves, they should have to problem doing so if they are careful when carrying out the steps.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
