Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Developers Are Shutting Down Modded Lobbies
Cheating has been a conversation topic for the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community since the game launched. While hacking can be a major problem in standard lobbies, they are double as troublesome in modded lobbies. That seems to be coming to an end, as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War developers take a stand against modded lobbies providers.
Modded lobbies are a lesser-known problem for the average Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War player. These lobbies exist outside the main game rotation and are generally considered a free-for-all experience for the hacking community. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players who find themselves in such lobbies can often gain massive XP boosts, speed level their account, and other unfair advantages due to the lobbies' modded nature.
Reddit user 2KSource posted an image of a Discord announcement from what is to be assumed a hacker server. The announcement reads that due to the modded lobby's hosts being banned from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the server is stopping all activities until further notice. It seems that due to the server owner's "services," some of the cheating players have been caught by the Activision Developers. Although the admin seems to believe that they can "make this right," Activision has long held a firm stance against hacking and modding despite the problems continued persistence.
The post's author censored the admin's name and a role in the server, making it difficult for the image to be tracked back to its source. Several players in the comments wonder why they would censor the chat, let alone post it at all on the official Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Reddit page.
Despite several questions being posed, the only comment that 2KSource makes is to explain what a modded lobby is. The term "Modded Lobby" is not commonly used in the Call of Duty community as most lobbies are hosted internally on Activision servers. Despite this, fans are relieved that some progress is being made to curb the continuing threat of the hacker community on Call of Duty matches.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community has been placing extra stress upon Activision to prevent hackers in the game. After several cheaters were discovered in professional Call of Duty matches, the community felt vulnerable as even the pros were losing to a select group of cheaters.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
