Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light Coming to Switch This Week for Limited Time
Everything old is new again. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light was originally released on the Famicom in Japan in 1990. Now, 30 years later, the very first Fire Emblem game is being released outside of Japan and in North America for the first time, but only for a limited time.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade Light sees players defending the Kingdom of Talys in 25 chapters. The classic tactical role-playing game has a cast of characters that work together to fight the Shadow Dragon. The game was remade in the form of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon back in 2008 for the DS, but this re-release is based completely on the 1990 title. Players will be able to buy it beginning on December 4, 2020, for $5.99 USD, but it will only be available until March 31, 2021.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light also features Marth, a beloved Super Smash Bros. character. In fact, many Super Smash Bros. fans were first introduced to the sword fighting prince in the fighting game, much like Ness or ROB. Now, Nintendo enthusiasts will be able to play the game in which Marth debuted in.
The limited nature of the game is interesting and even frustrating. Super Mario Bros. 35 and Super Mario 3D All-Stars are available for a limited time as well, also ending on March 31, 2021. Perhaps this is all a part of a new marketing plan for the Big N. Or maybe there is some sort of an exciting surprise in store come spring of 2021 for Nintendo. Only time will tell.
