Psychonauts 2 Releases New Concept Art | Game Rant

Developer Double Fine is celebrating its 20th anniversary and its first year as part of Xbox Game Studios. In celebration of this incredible milestone, the studio's president and iconic game developer Tim Schafer has released new concept art for its upcoming game, Psychonauts 2. It is worth remembering that Psychonauts 2 has been in development for quite some time now, suffering from multiple delays, before Double Fine settled on a 2021 release window.

The latest set of concept art for Psychonauts 2 comprises what appears to be early sketches of the game. The images also include some of the characters that may appear in the game, though it is still unclear whether all of the characters featured in these drawings will be featured in Psychonauts 2. Additionally, the latest concept art also gave players a sneak peek of some of the game's locations.

Apart from the new concept art, Schafer also sat down with IGN to talk about the state of the game. In the interview, Schafer admitted that "2020 did not speed up the development of Psychonauts 2." However, it appears that fans shouldn't be worried given that Schafer revealed that the studio is now working on the end credits of Psychonauts 2 and is transitioning to polishing elements that are already part of the game.

When asked how Psychonauts 2 has changed since the game entered development, Schafer revealed that most of the ideas came from its iconic predecessor, while the rest took a lot of trial and error. Although Psychonauts 2 is entering the polishing phase, Double Fine still hasn't revealed a specific release date. Likely, the studio is just making sure that when it reveals the release date, it will deliver the game on that date, given that Psychonauts 2 has already been delayed numerous times.

In other Psychonauts 2 news, Double Fine Productions released a photo of a creepy location in the game last October. The location appears to be a spinning tunnel made of teeth, which is creepy as it is interesting. Double Fine's official Twitter page posted the photo, and it appears to be based on the beginning of Psychonauts 2, inside the mind of Dr. Caligoisto Loboto. To the uninitiated, Loboto is the villain of both the original game and its spin-off, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin. In the first game, Loboto is depicted as having an insane obsession with teeth, which clearly explains the disturbing image.

Psychonauts 2 is scheduled to release sometime in 2021 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
