Sea of Solitude Director's Cut Announced for Nintendo Switch
Sea of Solitude made a surprising return to The Game Awards 2020 live stream, revealing a brand new edition of the game coming to Nintendo Switch. Sea of Solitude was revealed at E3 2018, later fully releasing on July 5, 2019 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Now, the game is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch in a bit of an updated package. The Switch version of Sea of Solitude will act as a sort of director’s cut for the game, with CEO of development studio Jo-Mei, Cornelia Geppert, saying the game has been “fully reworked” for this Switch version.
Sea of Solitude, developed by Jo-Mei and published by EA, is an indie title dedicated to exploring the struggles with mental health that millions of people across the globe deal with. When the game released back in 2019, many reviews for Sea of Solitude praised the game’s themes and reverence when handling such difficult topics. Now, it seems that players on the Nintendo Switch will have the opportunity to experience that same reverence, in a fully reworked package. Though explicit details were not revealed on what changes players can expect, it seems like there will be some big changes to Sea of Solitude on Switch.
In the reveal trailer, Geppert did say “this version of the game truly represents what I wanted to convey about the topics that are especially important in today’s difficult times.” The reveal trailer showed a brand new trailer of Sea of Solitude Director’s Cut showed gameplay and alluded to the game’s overall tone and story. Finally, the trailer ended with the game’s release date, coming to the Switch on March 4, 2021. Additionally, it appears that this director’s cut for EA’s Sea of Solitude will only be available on Nintendo Switch. Fans who missed out on this indie gem should definitely give it a try on Switch next March.
