Strange Apex Legends Exploit Gives Players Infinite Slide
Since its release, Apex Legends has had numerous movement glitches that result in some funny videos circulating online. While sliding has added a different dimension to movement in the game, it's normally limited to going down hills and is slowed to a stop on flat ground. However, thanks to a new exploit with crouching, players are currently able to slide infinitely.
Discovered by Apex Legends player KremitOG on Reddit and posted to the official Apex Legends subreddit, the exploit involves rebinding the crouch key. Binding crouch to the mouse wheel and spinning it allows a player to spam crouch at a high rate, causing the game to propel the player forward in a never-ending slide. At this time, there is no equivalent rebind or effect for console players to take advantage of.
To perform the exploit, players can start a slide as usual, and then scroll the mouse wheel to spam crouch. The exploited version of the slide animation comes with a shaky camera and constant crouching noises, instead of the normal smooth slide animation. One important thing to note is how easy the exploit is to perform, even for players new to Apex Legends.
The exploit is fun to watch, but aside from sliding and keeping a low profile while staying at normal speeds, there isn't much to be gained from actually performing the exploit. Players could possibly use this trick to move behind some cover with a low profile and not have the slowed movement of crouching, but that's about it. Like most exploits, it's more good for a laugh than any competitive advantage such as with an invulnerability glitch.
It's up for debate as to whether this is a game-breaking exploit or not. A previous glitch that caused players to instantly die is in a very different category than an exploit like this one. In the future, it may be patched by Respawn, but it is yet to be seen as to where it requires immediate attention.
While this is more an exploit than a glitch, other glitches in the game have had some heavy negative consequences for legends. For now, at least, this infinite slide seems to be just some harmless fun for the community to enjoy for a while.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with mobile and Switch versions in development.
