Streamer xQc Criticizes Twitch After C9 Ziqo is Banned
Twitch, the content creation mega-platform, is making headlines once again, though not for something as major as the indefinite suspension of Donald Trump. This time, it's a controversial streamer calling out the platform for a contentious ban.
Felix "xQc" Lengyel does not shy away from voicing his boisterous opinion to his 7.5-million followers on Twitch. Known for his professional gaming skills and outstanding personality, xQc took to Twitter to stand up for World of Warcraft streamer C9 Ziqo.
According to C9 Ziqo on YouTube, he was suspended by Twitch for seven days. C9 Ziqo went on to explain his history on the platform, as well as his successes in the streaming space. He was one of the first to receive their sub button and brings experience from Twitch's former name, JustinTV.
To summarize C9 Ziqo's video, he received an email from his account manager telling him of the week-long ban. He reveals that Twitch reportedly heard C9 Ziqo use a "hateful slur," thus violating Twitch's Terms of Service agreement, which every streamer signs when using the platform. Similar to xQc's statement, C9 Ziqo was told the hateful slur was used in a recent VOD on his Twitch channel and was shocked by the accusation. He continues by claiming he has never said a hateful slur or derogatory term.
The Luminosity pro brings up a valid point in terms of content creation and the dichotomy it has with the streamer's revenue. Full-time content creators rely on streaming every day to make a living, support themselves, or family. Paid time off is not offered, nor are health benefits. It's the responsibility of the individual to continue to stream to earn money.
Despite what happened to C9 Ziqo, Twitch is doing quite well in 2021. On January 12, Spanish Twitch streamer TheGrefg shattered viewership records with 2.4 million concurrent viewers. The previous individual record was held by TommyInnIt with 650,237 viewers as his all-time high.
When xQc called out Twitch for the ban, it generated a large response within the community. It appears the gaming community forgot about xQc's recent incident during a Twitch Rivals Competition, where he was caught stream-sniping playing Fall Guys.
Surely, C9 Ziqo is going to appeal the suspension, as World of Warcraft continues to rank near the top of the Twitch charts. At the time of this writing, Blizzard's MMO has 69,4000 viewers and over 8.2 million followers. It helps that the community is still enjoying the most-recent expansion, Shadowlands.
For fans of C9 Ziqo, it's fair to say they want answers, just like he does. The World of Warcraft community is very passionate about the content creators they choose to support, as evidence by their reaction to Asmongold's hiatus from streaming. It's a waiting game for C9 Ziqo at this point. Despite his suspension only lasting one week, answers are still deserved as to why he lost seven days of work without proper explanation.
