Ys 9: Monstrum Nox Gets PS4 Demo | Game Rant
It has been a while since Nihon Falcom's classic RPG series received a sequel, but the next installment is just a month away. Fans of the series won't have to wait until then to begin their next adventure with Adol Christin, however, as a free demo f0r Ys 9: Monstrum Nox just released. Those who want to give it a try can head over to the PlayStation Store and download it.
The newest installment of the Ys series takes a somewhat darker tone, with series protagonist Adol Christin gaining supernatural powers and becoming a Monstrum. Along with new companions, he must battle enemies from a shadowy dimension, as well as unravel the mysteries of the Monstrum curse within the city of Balduq.
The Ys series has been around since the 80s and has produced a number of games. While many of its themes, characters, and gameplay are similar, the series has managed to innovate throughout the years. The last title, Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana, released in 2016 and was reviewed well by critics, remaining one of the best entries in the series. Those who enjoy the Tales or Persona games will likely find Ys ranks among the best JRPGs to play.
The numbered titles follow Adol on his adventures across one timeline, but they aren't always in order. For example, Ys 8 takes place before Ys 7. The previous games don't need to be played to enjoy any one title, but those who are new to the series and want to catch up with the story can follow a game-by-game guide to the Ys timeline. The PlayStation Store has a number of entries available to purchase and play.
NIS America announced late last year that a localized version of Ys 9: Monstrum Nox would be arriving on the PS4 on February 2, 2021. It will also be releasing on the Nintendo Switch and PC little later on. Additionally, the announcement came with a gameplay trailer for Monstrum Nox that reveals parts of its story, and also showcases its darker tones.
Ys 9: Monstrum Nox will release for the PlayStation 4 on February 2, 2021, and for PC and Switch in mid-2021.
