Destiny 2: Are the Scorn Returning? | Game Rant
Season 13 of Destiny 2, otherwise known as Season of the Chosen, is right around the corner. It will carry forward many traditions from previous seasons while also introducing novelties such as the H.E.L.M. Bungie released a trailer giving information for the first half of the season, but included a cryptic clip at the end involving the Scorn.
Introduced with the Forsaken expansion, the Scorn are Destiny 2's latest major new enemy faction. Both Shadowkeep and Beyond Light added sub-factions to the game, but the Scorn are recognized as a different enemy race and have unique units. However, they have never been used in post-Forsaken content.
As for the clip itself, its made up of fuzzy recordings and starts with a shot of an abandoned Cabal ship adrift in a Darkness zone. This is no surprise as the Darkness is currently situated inside the Solar System, and the Cabal are making a major reappearance in Season 13. The shot cuts to what seems like security camera footage depicting a Scorn Screeb, a rank-and-file kamikaze unit. Lastly, a series of glitched Cabal text zips across the screen.
Screeb cannot send themselves on missions, so it is likely there are other Scorn units on that Cabal warship. The biggest piece of lore that ties this together comes from the Season of the Hunt Hunter Gauntlets. It says that emperor Calus, father to Caiatl, has abducted Scorn off the Tangled Shore. Calus captures alien specimens for two main reasons: either for enjoyment in the Menagerie or to deem a Shadow. The Fanatic, leader of the Scorn, can also potentially return, as it was established that he can resurrect himself.
Outside of lore, this may be teasing a number of gameplay features. A popular theory is that this will lead to a new Dungeon. While possible, a Dungeon like Prophecy is a big undertaking and an activity that Bungie would highlight during a new season reveal. Season of the Chosen is already more packed than recent seasons, so a new Dungeon might be several months away if in development at all.
However, players know a [REDACTED] exotic quest is coming this season, so this tease could be linked to that mission. Nothing is known about the quest other than the fact that it will award a Tex Mechanica weapon. With all that said, the simplest explanation is that this is simply a tease for the next season, since the trailer for Season 12 also included a clip from Season 13.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
