Skyrim Mod Enderal Getting Special Edition Compatibility Update
A lot of mods add whole new ways to play The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, but few are as substantial as SureAI's Enderal: Forgotten Stories total conversion mod. However, until recently, the mod hasn't been easily compatible with Skyrim: Special Edition, which comes with a number of enhancements that most players otherwise have to add to the base game from external sources.
While SureAI recently announced it will not be working on adding compatibility to port the Skyrim mod over to the Special Edition version, some fans are taking it upon themselves to push the project forward. Though Enderal still isn't available yet, it appears that an expected release should be on the way sometime in the next month or so.
For those that aren't entirely familiar with Enderal: Forgotten Stories, the "total conversion mod" is a completely new world built on top of the Skyrim engine. The mod is essentially an entirely new game, with a new story and series of side quests to explore in a dark world that is completely separate from the base game. Additionally, SureAI consistently updated the mod for some time, with the final patch having been recently released in January 2020.
The main issue that many players have run into since the release of the Skyrim: Special Edition, however, is that a number of external mods are required to make Enderal compatible with this new version. In a number of cases Special Edition lost a few popular mods due to the fine tuning of the systems, but the enhanced textures and rendering physics makes it a much more desirable experience to modern players. Seeing a new version of this mod appear on Steam recently, with an emphasis on compatibility, has many players excited to see Enderal return with a less taxing load of external additions.
Seeing that the Enderal: Special Edition is a community built mod, players should likely be prepared to not see the same level of support that SureAI has shown for the original. Regardless, Enderal still stands as a common favorite among the massive Skyrim mods that can completely change how players engage with the game and its systems. So, even without consistent support, the work done honing the original will likely help to make sure this new Special Edition port presents a similarly unique experience to Skyrim fans.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
