Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Pulls Crossbow Weapon, Activision Working on Refunds

The most recent Call of Duty titles have operated on systems of seasonal content and new releases meant to keep players engaged with an ever-changing meta. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War recently began its second season since integrating with Call of Duty: Warzone, adding a lot of content for fans to enjoy. However, it appears one recent addition was released too early, and now publisher Activision is working on refunding players.

A new bundle leaked onto Black Ops Cold War's store earlier today called the "Archaic Range," which includes a Legendary blueprint for the R1 Shadowhunter crossbow, as well as a charm, emblem, and sticker for players to equip. There have been other leaks regarding this weapon, but up until now the only confirmed information about crossbows was they were coming as a secondary weapon at some point in Black Ops Cold War Season 2.

The release of the Archaic Range bundle in the Call of Duty Store today was apparently a mistake, as the Activision Support Twitter account posted that an issue leading to the R1 Shadowhunter appearing "earlier than planned" was resolved. While the bundle and in-game challenge are confirmed to "return at a later date," for now Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone players can expect a refund if they purchased the bundle while it was live.

In the meantime other content is still coming to Black Ops Cold War in the near future. The Weekly Briefing posted on March 15 announced the "Ice Drake" variant of the Krig 6 assault rifle will be released as a Mastercraft weapon on March 21.

That being said, some players have expressed frustration in how weapon blueprints are handled altogether in Black Ops Cold War. One big change to the Call of Duty blueprint system suggested by said fans is that all weapon attachments should also be redesigned to match whatever blueprint design has been applied. Otherwise, stylized weapons may wind up with one or two pieces that seem out of place.

Whether or not that concern will be relevant for the R1 Shadowhunter once it releases will have to be seen, but at least some players can expect to get their money back for the confusion its early launch caused. As the AAA franchise continues expanding its arsenal of weapons, the esports Call of Duty League is also planning to become more widespread and inclusive, according to chief revenue officer Brandon Snow.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
