Grand Theft Auto Online's Cayo Perico Heist Added to Single-Player by Modder
Grand Theft Auto Online is known for being one of the most popular multiplayer experiences on various platforms. Rockstar Games has released countless updates and expansions to the mode since its release back in 2013. While the recent Cayo Perico expansion is for GTA Online, a modder has brought it to single-player as well.
The iconic multiplayer offers a variety of activities to complete, but one of the main features involves heists. One of the highest earners in GTA Online history is the Cayo Perico heist expansion, which takes players to a tropical locale. Set on a private island separate from the main map, players can complete this quest solo or in a group. That said, it is only now that those avoiding online can play the heist in single player.
The modder, HKH191, was able to bring the island, items, and questline to offline mode for Grand Theft Auto 5. Playing either as Michael, Trevor, or Franklin, the main characters in the game, fans can partake in the heist. Veterans will know that the quest involves five missions before the main finale of pillaging El Rubio's loot. Similar to the online version, fans can perform the heist alone or with AI groupies. However, individual decision-making is still a key aspect of the Cayo Perico mission even in single-player.
Those interested in trying this out will first need to download the mod by HKH191. Once this is done, make sure to buy the submarine Kosatka, one of the main vehicles in Cayo Perico. After collecting enough money and purchasing the behemoth, it will appear as a blip on the map. Head out and enter the submarine using one of the preset markers, and after getting inside go to the room with the periscope. Here there will be another marker to initialize the heist questline, so activate that to get planning on the heist preparations.
Years after release, it looks like modders are adding some of the best additions to GTA 5's single-player. Only recently a programmer lowered load times in GTA Online significantly, now HKH191 is bringing an entire expansion to offline mode. Fans still enjoying the base game will likely want to hop in on this mod to experience some fresh content. Besides gathering enough cash for the submarine, it sounds like it is pretty easy to start the quest, which is great for fans.
This does beg the question as to why the heist is not officially available offline. If a modder is able to bring the whole questline over to the game, it seems like it should be fully within Rockstar's ability to do so as well. Regardless, Cayo Perico is still far more content in GTA Online than Red Dead Online has received recently. In any case, with a quick download, any player can enjoy the heist regardless of playing multiplayer or not.
Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto 5 are available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
