Moon Raider Developer Cascadia Games Working on New Game Based on a Classic 90s IP
In anticipation for Moon Raider coming to consoles, developer Cascadia Games has commented on development of both this most recent game, as well as what is in the works for company moving forward. One of these future projects from the indie developer even promises to emulate a classic title from the 90's in at least some of the art aspects, if not possibly the gameplay as well.
During an interview with Game Rant, Cascadia Games owner Chris Jorgensen opened up about what the developer has prepared after the developer's most recent title Moon Raider is successfully ported from Mobile and Steam to consoles. While the developer couldn't comment on what exactly this classic 90's IP was that work had initially began on developing a new game for, it will likely bleed into the next project the company takes on.
According to Jorgensen, Cascadia Games has been working towards licensing a classic IP for the last few years, but the project has since been shelved for undisclosed reasons. As a result, the developer has a number of art assets that will now be repurposed into the upcoming title Bay Lynx, which the company is currently advertising as coming soon on its website and has posted periodically through social media. From what's been shown of the game already, it looks like a mash-up of classic Sonic mechanics combined with a purely side-scrolling version of Crash Bandicoot.
"Years ago, I pitched to license a classic 90s platform game IP. Technically, I can’t say which one because I’m still under NDA. Ultimately, after months of discussions, I withdrew my interest in the license. As a result, I was left with a lot of unused artwork. Most of that is going into a new game called “Bay Lynx.” I’m still experimenting with the gameplay. I haven’t quite found its pace just yet."
It would be difficult to say exactly which classic IP was originally in discussion based on the art assets that have been shown so far, as well as the gameplay which may or may not have been brought over from the previous project. Jorgensen also couldn't elaborate on the planned game, as the decision for Cascadia Games to step away is still recent enough for discussion of the property to be locked behind NDAs and other legal hurdles. For now, fans can only speculate on what eventually became Bay Lynx, though it may become clearer as more progress is made on the project and these repurposed art assets begin to appear.
At the moment, it doesn't look like Bay Lynx is quite ready for release, so it could take some time before players get a chance to see what might have carried over from the previous deal. Plus, with Cascadia Games focused on the port of Moon Raider to consoles, it might be a while before fans get another look at development progress on the developer's next title. Until then, fans can still look forward to see the developer's most recent game make the jump from PC to the most popular consoles and arrive to even more players as a result.
Moon Raider is available now for Mobile and PC, with a PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, release planned for April 23rd.
