Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Brings Back Sniper Flinch

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War made a controversial update previously that removed bullet flinch from sniper-based classes. While the concept was meant to help balance snipers within the game, many fans considered it unfair to other gun categories. In a new set of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War patch notes, the developers have revised their initial decision.

Bullet flinch is an important part of the Call of Duty shooter experience. While it offers a semi-realistic response to being shot, it also serves as a balancing factor for both the shooter and target. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players can miss their shots if they are hit, and this can often save a teammate's life or prevent additional kills by an enemy.

In a recent set of patch notes, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players will notice a shift in how bullet flinch is handled by snipers. Noted as "Custom Flinch," the feature now moves the weapon when a player has been hit. This is a more pronounced reaction in ADS moments, and the development has even factored attachments into their calculations. This should allow Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War snipers to experience bullet flinching again, but it is a distinctly different system than normally used.

In general, bullet flinches are a standard reaction across most of the classes. While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War attachments can modify the amount of flinching, none have the ability to remove it completely. This allows a consistent bullet flinch effect in both standard and ADS modes which work to disrupt player's accuracy and signify bullet damage.

Fans in the comments share their relief at the patch, but many have the same question when reading through the notes. While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War snipers did need bullet flinch to return, fans question the reason behind an increase during ADS times. It seems odd to many, and some believe that it may cause sniper rifles to become unplayable in the game environment.

While the update is still fresh, it is unknown exactly how this will affect the sniper option. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has a large sniper population, and the game developers even advertised the return of trick shot capabilities. Despite this, a reduction in ADS speeds seems troublesome to many fans, but its true impact remains unclear until players have a chance to experience the nerf themselves.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
