Devolver Digital Valued at $1.4 Billion Ahead of Initial Public Offering
Devolver Digital may soon be going public, and ahead of that big day, the publisher's value has been estimated at $1.4 billion. For a company that was founded only twelve years ago and focuses on indie games, that valuation is quite an accomplishment.
The indie publisher is most recently known for successful games like Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout and Loop Hero, but Devolver Digital has a long list of highly-rated games of various genres. The publisher has long been credited for being a risk-taking company that focuses on artistic and unique experiences. Apparently, that creative experimentation has paid off, as Devolver Digital could be headed to the public space valued at a hefty sum.
According to a report from Telegraph, Devolver Digital will go public by the end of 2021. The publisher of the ever-evolving Fall Guys has teamed up with bankers from Zeus Capital where Devolver Digital would land on the London Stock Exchange. With that process in mind, Devolver Digital's valuation met $1.4 billion dollars.
Devolver Digital was founded in 2009 and it first focused on Serious Sam remakes and spin-offs. However, the publisher quickly became a fan-favorite for games like Katana ZERO, Gris, The Messenger, My Friend Pedro, and Hotline Miami. While the indie-darling titles cannot be denied, including Loop Hero selling half a million copies in just one week, the game that likely helped propel Devolver Digital's value to meteoric heights is Fall Guys.
While there was some excitement leading up to the release of the last-man-standing party game, Fall Guys saw massive success when it launched. The decision to have the title release for free with PlayStation Plus was seen as a success, as millions of PlayStation users took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the title.
Fall Guys is also a different type of game from the standard Devolver Digital experience. While many games from the publisher are single-player campaign indie titles designed to be played once--or at the very least purchased once--Fall Guys is a multiplayer game designed to be played with groups and enjoyed over many sessions. Additionally, the game utilizes some newer monetary ideas such as a battle pass, in-game store, etc.
All of this would add up to why Fall Guys is a money-maker for the publisher, and it isn't done yet. Fall Guys is headed to Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles in the future as well, meaning there will be more opportunities for players to enjoy the game--and more opportunities for Devolver Digital to profit off of what has already been a massively successful title.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is available now on PC and PS4 with versions for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in development for release in 2021.
