Dauntless: The Ultimate Weapon Tier List | Game Rant
Dauntless is an action RPG video game that launched in May 2019. It is free-to-play as well as co-op. Developed by Phoenix Labs, this game sees players teaming up together to take on huge monsters and creatures referred to as behemoths. To match up to these behemoths, the players (dubbed Slayers) must wield a variety of powerful and unique weapons. These include the Axe, the Ostian Repeaters, the War Pike, the Sword, the Chain Blades, the Hammer, and the Aether Strikers.
All of the weapons may be imbued with Aether for greater enhancements, and each comes with a different set of special skills. The weapons are either Slashing, Blunt, or Piercing and may be improved (via tiers) with more and more usage. Each weapon has its advantages, but some outshine the others.
7 The Axe Is Powerful, But Slow
The Axe is a slashing weapon that hits heavy, but stays tactical. Slayers must build up a meter by attacking and then let loose a buff for greater power. This stacks up to three times.
Additionally, the Axe utilizes a couple of mechanics. Resolve gets activated when a vertical attack is charged three times, making the Slayer immune to being staggered. Determination needs just a single horizontal or vertical charged attack and grants higher damage output. Specials for the Axe are Flight of Ruin, Grim Onslaught, and Relentless Onslaught. All three of these involving throwing or hurling the axe.
Overall, the Axe has high damage, as well as decent potential to interrupt, stun, sever, and with each swing. However, it takes a while to charge it up — and that's putting it mildly.
6 The Ostian Repeaters Deal High Damage, But Don't Stagger
The Ostian Repeaters are ranged weapons of the special type. Slayers may choose to get up close and personal or stay far away when attacking. However, the closer they are to the behemoths, the better the damage. Slayers also have access to buffs and traps with these weapons.
On top of that, Ostian Repeaters can be customized; Barrels, Chambers, Grips, and Prisms are changeable. Barrels change the element, Chambers change the skill shot ability, Grips set the thrown ability, and Prisms control the passive bonus.
The Ostian Repeaters are the ranged weapon champions and deal tons of damage quickly. Unfortunately though, behemoths will not be staggered whatsoever, although their body parts may be severed.
5 The War Pike Isn't A Hard Hitter, But It's Versatile
The War Pike has the ability to perform piercing and slashing in terms of weapon types. It is weak at first, especially compared to the other weapons. Eventually though, the meter will build up via tactical wounds. Once it gets filled, players can fire actual mortar rounds at behemoths. The more energy stored, the more powerful these missiles will be.
Specials for the War Pike are Concussive Payload, Savage Wellspring, Godhang, and Reckless Leap. All three of them involve converting the meter into ammo. Concussive Payload fires a missile, Savage Wellspring creates an aura of buffs, Godhand channels a beam, and Reckless Leap is a lunging attack.
While the War Pike does not do much damage, it strikes fast and wounds body parts, in addition to severing and interrupting. Meanwhile, the player is able to dodge incoming attacks efficiently.
4 The Sword Is Basic & Reliable
The Sword in this game, like in others, is a classic weapon of the slashing weapon type. Players must use it only in close quarters. After the meter builds up, the Sword becomes even faster, capable of severing body parts from behemoths.
Players can create different types of combos with this weapon. Core combos are basic and generate Valour. Valour combos consume Valour, and when unleashed, increase the Special meter. Special combos maximize damage. Specials for the Sword are Valiant Overdrive, Ardent Cyclone, Feast, and Avenging Overdrive. Valiant Overdrive consumes the meter to make the Slayer faster. Ardent Cyclone is a spinning attack. Feast is Valiant Overdrive but with lifesteal. Avenging Overdrive is the same as Valiant Overdrive with the option to parry and riposte a behemoth for massive damage.
Like in many other games, the Sword in Dauntless is not the best but not the worst. It serves as a go-to all-around weapon for every player.
3 Chain Blades Provide Excellent Mobility
The Chain Blades are essentially dual blades with extreme mobility, and are of the slashing weapon type. While typically used up close, the Slayer can lunge from a distance as well.
Specials for the Chain Blades are Reaper's Dance, Cruel Riftstrike, and Insatiable Dance. Reaper's Dance will pull targets if the Slayer is at a distance or push them off if nearby (and grant bonus damage). Cruel Rifstrsike is a teleport with a strike. Insatiable Dance similar to Reaper's Dance, but activates bonus healing instead of damage.
The Chain Blades are unmatched when it comes to mobility and delivering fast attacks, meaning consistent damage. However, the player is completely unable to interrupt behemoths.
2 The Hammer Crushes Behemoths
The Hammer is not only a cudgel, but a cannon too. As players might expect, it is of the blunt weapon type. This weapon can splinter bones and maul scales while blasting behemoths to smithereens.
Specials for the Hammer are Concussive Salvo, Mighty Landbreaker, Molten Edict, and Ironheart Landbreaker. All of them involve loading ammo. Concussive Salvo is a blast, Mighty Landbreaker is an aether vent of buffs, Molten Edict is a fireball, and Ironheart Landbreaker is just a better Mighty Landbreaker.
The Hammer is the king of breaking the behemoths' body part as well as staggering them. Yet, there is no possibility for slashing damage, if needed for the circumstance.
1 Aether Strikers Are Unmatched In Close Quarters
The Aether Strikers are spiritual yet brutal. These weapons are of the blunt type. Wielding these, the Slayer will punch any behemoth into oblivion. The Aether Strikers also charge up energy (called Mantra) and use it to unleash special attacks.
Specials for the Aether Strikers are Adamant Bolt and Titan's Crash. Adamant Bolt is a focused blast of unleashed energy. Titan's Crash is a wave of pressure loaded with unleashed energy.
The Aether Strikers are fast and interrupt behemoths with ease. The player must not stop striking and dodging. The range is poor for this weapon, so they are up close and personal.
