Elder Scrolls Online: The Best PvP Build For Each Class
The Elder Scrolls Online is an expansive game. The map features just about the entirety of the continent of Tamriel, including familiar locations from the mainline Elder Scrolls games. The game's PvP system takes place in Cyrodiil, the setting for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and is built around the Alliance War.
It's a different system to other MMOs because PvP takes place entirely in one location in ESO. Cyrodiil is just as big as it was in the fourth Elder Scrolls game, though. There's just as much variety in player builds as there is room to roam the Imperial City's surroundings. Some builds, though, clearly outshine others.
The Dragonknight is The Elder Scrolls Online's most distinct tank class, though it does have the potential to deal high damage as well as take it. The Drotoxium build by Doble is a stamina-based, semi-ranged build. It takes the best of both worlds, turning a Dragonknight into a self-sustaining force to be reckoned with.
The build uses a Two-Handed weapon in the main action bar, featuring spells like Venomous Claw and Take Flight to launch the Dragonknight into a flurry of devastating attacks. The back bar uses a Bow, with a variety of Support abilities to keep the Dragonknight alive. The build puts every single Attribute Point into Stamina to complement its huge reliance on Stamina-based abilities. With that back bar of self-healing and defensive abilities, though, the lack of health points rarely matters.
The Necromancer is a very versatile class. These characters can deal damage, heal and buff allies, and take damage with ease. The Necromancer typically uses staff weapons mixed with an assortment of their innate skills, and the "Horror" build from Alcast HQ takes advantage of the class's high potential for party play.
The "Horror" build gives the Necromancer a Destruction Staff in their main hand, paired with a variety of spells that boost their own damage. Stalking Blastbones is a reliable AoE damage spell, while Shock Clench becomes the go-to spammable spell. The build uses a Restoration Staff on the back bar with spells from the Bone Tyrant tree to boost the Necromancer's defense on the battlefield. When paired with build-specific gear and Champion Point allocation, a Necromancer played correctly can be a one-man army in Cyrodiil.
The Elder Scrolls Online's Nightblade class is typically played as a burst damage dealer with lots of close-quarters tricks to give them the upper edge. While they have a few Magicka-based spells that are useful, the stamina-based "Assassin" build by Alcast HQ is much more effective for fast-paced PvP in Cyrodiil.
The build is based on movement in combat and uses the Eternal Hunt set to make a quick escape from battle even easier. While some might consider dual-wielding or daggers to be a Nightblade's specialty, the main bar of the Assassin build is taken by a Two-Handed weapon, with a Bow on the back. The abilities Surprise Attack, Ambush, and Camouflaged Hunter are perfect for sneaking up on an enemy and catching them unawares, while the back bar's Shadowy Disguise, Resolving Vigor, and Temporal Guard keep the Nightblade alive against the odds.
The Sorcerer is a typical spell-and-staff wielding class that has the potential for enormous damage output when played optimally. The PvP build "The Magister" by Dottz Gaming takes advantage of the class' extremely powerful toolkit. It also dons the Sorcerer in Heavy Armor instead of Light Armor for damage mitigation.
Though the Sorcerer dons Heavy Armor for this build, they still rely on Destruction Staffs, namely the Inferno Staff and Ice Staff, for their front and back bars. The Sorcerer is typically great for PvE content thanks to its uninterrupted ranged attacks; however, in PvP, the class has to worry about other players. For this reason, the build makes use of the Crushing Shock spell, a damaging interrupt. Additionally, the Streak spell stuns enemies in the Sorcerer's path to mitigate some of this.
The Templar class is multi-faceted, but generally more suited to the tanking and support roles in PvE party play. In PvP, though, the Templar has a high potential for burst damage that complements its party-wide healing abilities. The "Retribution" build by Dottz Gaming takes the best parts of the Templar and puts them together.
One of the key pieces of the build is its use of the Ancient Dragonguard set, which increases damage when health is above 50% and reduces incoming damage when below 50%. It's a Magicka-based build, and every Attribute point goes into the Magicka Stat. The front bar uses a Destruction Staff with multiple Templar abilities like Toppling Charge and Radiant Oppression to take control of a large fight. For this build, it's advised to turn oneself into a Vampire, which grants access to the Elusive Mist spell. This is an important escape tool in this build's arsenal.
The Elder Scrolls Online's closest representation of a classic fantasy Ranger is found in the Warden. This class has a huge variety of spells at its disposal through three distinct class trees. What Wardens lack in damage output they more than make up for with enemy debuffs and esoteric spells. These find an effective use for PvP in the "Nature's Wrath" build by Dottz Gaming.
The build has the player turn into a Werewolf for a huge increase to base stamina recovery. It also uses the Clever Alchemist and Hunding's Rage set, which increase weapon and spell damage significantly. The main bar uses dual-wielded weaponry and close-quarters spells like Whirling Blades and Dawnbreaker of Smiting for DPS bursts. On the back bar is a one-handed sword and shield. Pair these with a variety of Support and control-based abilities like Soothing Spores and Ice Fortress, to give the Warden a tactical edge.
