Nvidia to Increase Production of its RTX 3060 Card from July, Prices Dropping
As millions around the globe wait for the GPU situation to rectify itself, it can seem like every piece of news surrounding Nvidia or AMD is teeming with misery. Even with the likes of AMD's CEO sure that availability would be improving soon, it can be difficult to maintain a positive outlook given how long the deficit has been going on. However, there may be some glimmer of hope, as production of the GeForce RTX 3060 begins to increase.
In a recent report, it's been announced that Nvidia will be increasing production of one of its newer, though not newest, graphics cards starting next month. While this may not initially seem like the light at the end of the tunnel, especially given that both Nvidia and AMD have been putting out products during the shortage, the report goes on to say that there are price drops being spotted around the globe, particularly in places like China.
As it stands, the RTX 3060, which was released earlier this year, is being sold in China at two-thirds the recommended retail price, going down to around $730 where before it was on display for around $1,200. When it was first launched in February, the RTX 3060 was considered to have an extortionate price tag, even on second-hand markets. However, the massive reduction in price spells good news for those who have been waiting for a new GPU since the shortages were announced sometime last year.
This is also not the first piece of news that suggests Nvidia and AMD graphics cards are starting to become more available. A week ago, it was announced that prices in Europe for PC tech were dropping and that this, too, suggested that the market was on the mend. At this stage, it may be too early to tell for definite, but all the signs seem to point to the idea that PC gamers may be in with a bit of luck shortly as steady supplies start to roll in once again.
With sales up for both AMD and Nvidia from the start of 2021, it seems as though both tech giants were doing okay for themselves despite the shortages. As companies contemplated re-launching older products as a temporary measure until the situation improved, there is a glimmer of hope that modern GPUs will be easily obtainable again soon. With that, the increased production of the RTX 3060 and a dip in prices in China hopefully spells a move in the right direction for anyone who's been patiently waiting in the wings.
