Call of Duty: Warzone Double Weapon XP Bug Returns, Frustrating Players
As with the majority of Call of Duty titles, the multiplayer modes offer a progression system which has gotten more and more complex with recent titles. While players earn general experience to advance their account, unlocking new perks, gear, killstreaks, and more, players can also earn specific weapon XP based primarily on kills with it in specific matches. Leveling a weapon unlocks new attachments, with the best ones typically saved for the higher levels.
To help assist players in advancing levels quicker, players have two methods they can utilize. While double XP tokens can be spent prior to a match for those who have unlocked them, most Call of Duty players anticipate Double XP weekends, which give every player double experience for a set amount of time, typically from Friday through Sunday. However, the most recent Double XP Weekend has been marred by the return of a frustrating bug which undermines the entire event.
On Friday, Treyarch announced the activation of a special Double XP weekend, giving players an opportunity to quickly level faster than normal. However, the post was quickly met with frustrated players who discovered that the weapon XP bonus was not working as intended. Making matters worse is that the event has been tied into a holiday weekend for the United States, resulting in much higher traffic as players look to take advantage of the special bonus. Oddly enough, something similar happened last year, leading many to believe the double XP event in 2020 was bugged as well.
This isn't the first time this issue has cropped up, though many Call of Duty: Warzone players are resigned to the fact that it won't likely be acknowledged or fixed in time. While reports seem to indicate the double XP seems to be working on Black Ops Cold War multiplayer matches, the main issue comes with Warzone where many have discovered that the Plunder mode does not give double XP as it should. In fact, some players have even indicated the bug extends to the overall double XP bonus not working either. Unfortunately for fans, none of the main Call of Duty or Activision social media channels have reported an issue with double XP as of yet.
While understandably frustrating, Raven is currently handling multiple issues with Warzone, meaning the temporary XP boost likely isn't a priority for the developers at this point. Just last week, the infamous no glint bug made its return, giving snipers a massive advantage thanks to being nearly impossible to counter. Bounty Contracts not being able to be completed has also been a big issue in the community, though a new hack that can kill without line of sight as well as through objects has also been a massive problem for Warzone matches as of late.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
