Greedfall: How To Romance Vasco | Game Rant
As debatably the companion with the best dialogue, Vasco the Naut is also 1 of 4 that can be romanced in Greedfall, the hit indie action RPG by French developer Spiders. As he is also 1 of 2 potential bisexual romantic interests in the game, the other being Siora, Vasco represents fearless sailors as well as members of the LGBT gaming community.
To romance this secretive yet stalwart ally, players in the role of the noble-born De Sardet must complete all 3 of Vasco's personal quests as well as select the correct lines of dialogue while speaking with the Naut captain to reach the closest possible relationship status with him.
Those seeking to get a boon to their Intuition Talent are recommended to romance Vasco, or at least become close platonic friends with him, as his Friendship Bonus increases the player's Intuition by a full point when he is in the party.
After becoming an ally of the stern Naut, one can speak to him to hear his plan to uncover parts of his shrouded past, which, he will follow up by asking for De Sardet's help in gathering information. This will lead to the beginning of the "A Name for a Family" personal quest, which is the first step to getting closer to Vasco.
- Enter and investigate the harbor master's office to learn where Vasco's file is kept
- Buy or craft 4 sleeping potions
- Got to Dieter in the nearby tavern and get him to drug the drinks of the office guards with the potions
- Find and put on a Naut disguise (a full outfit made of any clothing that is considered "Naut" in origin)
- Stroll into the harbor master's office free of suspicion
- Find the key on a crate nearby
- Head upstairs and obtain Vasco's file from the locked container
- Exit the office
Leaving the office with Vasco's file in hand will complete the quest and result in a 3-point increase to one's relationship reputation with the Naut captain as well as 1000 XP. To make Vasco like the player more, the next time De Sardet speaks with him, be sure to ask the sailor about his happy memories after he mentions his regrets of not being able to grow up as a noble.
A few in-game days after completing the previous quest, the player can speak with Vasco again to pick up the next one in the chain called "Family Reunion", where one will learn more of Vasco's noble lineage from the D'Arcy family. The Naut will mention information he has found about his brother and a steep debt threatening him before asking De Sardet once more for aid.
- Head to New Sérène to begin the investigation
- Speak to Madame de Morange
- Interrogate Madame Clerc
- Use one's Intuition or Charisma Talents to pass respective stat checks (or bribe her with 100 coins)
- After acquiring the information, head to Hikmet
- Go to the marked house and speak with a man named Ferhat on the 2nd floor
- Then interrogate an alchemist on the ground floor
- Pass the Charisma check when speaking with the alchemist to learn about thugs being hired to enforce the debt collection (if one does not pass the check, a letter containing the same information can be found upon a desk on the ground floor)
- Speak to Ferhat again and pressure him for information
- Learn about Vasco's brother, Bastien, being held captive by the debt collectors
- Go to the area where Bastien is being held
- Rescue him by either paying his debt (200 coins), passing a Charisma dialogue check, or defeating the collectors in combat (the latter will result in losing 1 reputation point with the Congregation of Merchants)
- Speak to Bastien once he is free
- Leave the area
Completing this quest after leaving the area will increase the player's relationship reputation with Vasco by 4 points and grant 1300 XP. The captain, in a conversation, will ask De Sardet about the events that have transpired, at which, players should respond by telling Vasco how much he asserted himself bravely when meeting his brother Bastien. The Naut will appreciate this and will become more fond of the player than before.
A few days later, the player can speak to Vasco again to begin the final personal quest, "Forever a Naut", where the now friendly captain tries to build his reputation among his real people, the Nauts.
- Talk to Admiral Cabral at the New Sérène docks to learn of a missing Naut ship, the Oriflamme
- Head to the location along the coast indicated on the map
- Investigate the wreckage of the Oriflamme and the area surrounding it
- After forming a theory of what happened, head into the nearby cave to initiate a boss fight with a Nádaig Glendemen (defeating it will yield a Memory Crystal)
- After defeating the beast, investigate the cave to find the Oriflamme's logbook
- Return to Admiral Cabral and give her the logbook
- Talking with her will result in much praise for De Sardet and Vasco, followed by permission given by the Admiral for Vasco to receive an honorable new face tattoo
- Accompany Vasco to the tattoo shop
The completion of this final personal quest will boost one's relationship reputation with Vasco by a massive 5 points in addition to giving 1600 XP. Speaking with the man afterward will bring up the topic of sailing, during which, when prompted, the player should mention how they would like to sail with him again if they want to permanently get into this captain's good books. A bit later, during the following conversation, Vasco will romantically recite part of a poem to the player, after which one can spend some time alone with the Naut and reach the highest level of relationship possible in the game.
