James Gunn Is Quite Impressed With The Suicide Squad Cosplayers

The wait for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is almost over, with the film releasing in less than two weeks. The movie will premiere amid much hype as fans are excitedly waiting to see Gunn’s version of the team of misfits who are “dying to save the world.” This became obvious when several cosplayers started posing as different characters from the upcoming film before it has even released, and a whole team has caught the attention of director Gunn.

On his official Twitter account, Gunn shared several images of the cosplayers, jokingly referring to them as leaked photos from the set of The Suicide Squad. The filmmaker is obviously quite impressed with the costumes put together by the team, who can be seen dressed as Harley Quinn, Peacemaker, Polka-Dot Man, King Shark, Ratcatcher, and Savant in the photographs.

The original post was put up by Twitter user Millie, who goes by @dresesandragons and constantly uploads various cosplay outfits on her social media channels. She has posed as Yelena from Black Widow and Lily Houghton from Jungle Cruise in just the past week. When uploading The Suicide Squad cosplay photos, she tagged Gunn and joked about how she had asked to borrow the boots worn by John Cena, who plays Peacemaker in the upcoming film.

Millie and her friends, who are all into cosplay and constantly share photos of different outfits they have created on social media, seem to have worked hard on their The Suicide Squad costumes. Even though she refers to it as "low-budget cosplay," most of them look quite similar to the costumes used in the film. Of course, there’s the matter of the giant shark costume, which makes King Shark look like an adorable mascot more than a man-eating monster. But, Gunn’s followers love it either way and now want to see Sylvester Stallone, who plays the character in The Suicide Squad, in the same costume in the future.

The cosplayers were ecstatic about receiving the acknowledgment from Gunn, with all of them sharing his post to their respective Twitter timelines. Since the Suicide Squad photos have now gone viral, the team has been receiving a lot of praise from social media users about how accurate their look is and the effort that they have put in to bring the cosplay to life.

The Suicide Squad will release in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
