Pokemon GO: How to Get Shiny Kabuto | Game Rant
As part of the Time Ultra Unlock event in Pokemon GO, Kabuto currently has a boosted spawn rate, along with other Pokemon like Voltorb, Porygon, Omanyte, Cranidos, and Shieldon. The Time Ultra research and rewards will end on August 3, 8pm local time. Shiny-hunters will want to make the most of this by boosting the appearance of the usually very rare Kabuto even further.
As a dual rock/water-type, there are many places a Kabuto can currently appear in Pokemon GO. However, some areas are better for attracting the fossil Pokemon than others, and additional items can be used to increase trainers' chances of spawning it, making it easier to farm for that shiny Kabuto.
Kabuto is usually a very rare sight in Pokemon GO, but due to its boosted spawn rate can easily be found by playing the mobile game in a few different areas, including:
- Near bodies of water, like lakes, beaches, rivers and streams
- In open areas like fields or farmlands
- Near large commercial buildings in towns and cities
- Parking lots
- Quarries
Even outside of the Ultra Unlock Time event, Kabuto still has a chance of spawning in these types of areas, but at a greatly reduced rate. If trainers can easily travel to an area that has a few of these recommended rock/water spawn locations it will increase the chances of spawning the Pokemon even further. These increased numbers are ideal for farming shiny Kabuto, whose sparkling-variant turns green to indicate its shiny status.
To boost a shiny Kabuto spawn in Pokemon GO even further, players can:
- Activate an Incense
- Use a Lure Module at a PokeStop
- Use a Rainy or Magnetic Lure Module at a PokeStop
Lure Modules increase the spawn rate of all Pokemon at a PokeStop, while Rainy and Magnetic Lure Modules will attract water and rock-types at a higher rate. Incense is like a portable Lure Module that works only for the trainer who activates it. Lure Modules and Incense are available for the in-game shop for anybody who doesn't have some spare in their inventory. Friends should activate Lure Modules together if they are both searching for a shiny Kabuto together, and want to conserve their Pokemon GO PokeCoins.
Another bonus way that trainers can find Kabuto, is to incubate a 7K Egg acquired during the Ultra Unlock Time event. These eggs are obtained by opening gifts from friends when a spare Pokemon Egg slot is available. However, Kabuto is one of seven Pokemon found in these eggs during the Time event, and Omanyte, Aerodactyl, Lileep, Anorith, Cranidos, or Shieldon could also hatch.
If trainers are lucky enough to find a shiny Kabuto using these methods, they should continue to look for another before the event ends on August 3. Kabuto evolves into Kabutops, so players will need to catch 2 in order to complete the set for this rare fossil Pokemon.
Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS devices.
