Dr Disrespect Reveals Why He Won't Play New World
New World has been all the rage these past few weeks, launching to immense success it seems. That’s not to say the game isn’t without flaws, having been mired in GPU controversies, strained from server issues, and criticized for a variety of concerns like New World’s weapon clipping. But, as an MMO, it’s got a bright future ahead with several big-name streamers checking it out.
These names ranged from Asmongold, who is synonymous with World of Warcraft, to typical FPS/BR streamer Shroud. One big name who hasn’t really dove into the game yet, however, is the two-time champ Dr Disrespect. Beyond it not being the type of game he typically streams, Dr Disrespect recently revealed why he wouldn’t touch New World.
At the suggestion he plays New World, the Doc was pretty straight to the point of why he wouldn’t watch it, let alone play it. As seen around the 1:50:47 mark below, the Doc says, “I can’t sit in my seat and watch someone chop trees and bricks. Everyone runs around with fifty million other people trying to update levels by zero-point-five percent that is casted to the end of their stick that lets them do electrical charges on some sort of wolf creature on the east side of the map.” It may be slightly over the top (given the Doc’s persona and all), but this broad description would seemingly suggest that he has an issue with the MMO elements of the game.
Indeed, improving skills like chopping trees and the like are commonplace in MMOs, and typically increasing levels is slow-paced. Most MMOs, not just New World, are likely to go against Doc’s personal mantra of “violence, speed, [and] momentum.” He goes on to say these particular issues for the game make it hard for him to get invested and thus have any drive to play it.
It’s definitely understandable, as some genres do not appeal to some gamers, and it’s clear MMOs have never been Doc’s thing. Back in 2019, during the early hype for World of Warcraft Classic, the Doc refused to play it as well, citing how old this particular game was this time around. So, his views on MMOs appear to be rather consistent, at least.
There are plenty of first-person shooters on the horizon, though, for Doc and any FPS fan. Battlefield 2042, Call of Duty: Vanguard, and Halo Infinite are releasing across the next couple of months, and while the reception to each has been quite different, it’ll be interesting to see how the competition goes at launch.
New World is available now on PC.
