Elder Scrolls Fan Has Allergic Reaction, Compares Himself to Oblivion Character
When it comes to the Elder Scrolls games, one of the first things players encounter is the character creation screen, unless it's Skyrim, in which case fans will traditionally have to sit through the lengthy intro cut scene before they get to customize their avatar. Character creation in the epic franchise has changed over the years, but it's always been an integral part of the journey. However, one fan has seemingly managed to bring the character creation screen into real life after an allergic reaction.
Posting a short clip to the Elder Scrolls Subreddit a couple of days ago, user jgreene27 has shown the community what has happened to his face after a reaction involving shrimp. The title of the post suggests that he now looks like he spent "too much time" in the character creation screen from Oblivion. Although it might look uncomfortable, the user seems to be smiling in the video, and has taken the reaction quite well. He also doesn't appear to be suffering or in any pain.
His video has invited many comments in the thread, some of which are direct, or paraphrased, quotes lifted from the 15-year-old Elder Scrolls game. A couple of people have referred to jgreene27 as the "hero of Kvatch" while others have dropped in generic dialogue from the game in good humor. The general reaction in the comments have shown just how important meme culture in the Elder Scrolls is, especially in the fan community, and how it has made an impact on life outside the games. People are seemingly more than happy to drop in a quote or two in a light-hearted fashion. Others, however, have offered words of sympathy and their own stories of allergic reactions to shrimp.
Had an allergic reaction and now I look like I spent too much time in oblivion’s character creation from ElderScrolls
Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion has a very memorable introduction, one which perfectly establishes some of the lore early on, as well as giving fans a glimpse into Sir Patrick Stewart's voice-over prowess. The game itself is generally quite memorable, despite aging somewhat now, so the fact that jgreene27 immediately jumps to the idea that their puffy face resembles this installment's character creation screen is a testament to how much it has imprinted itself on the gaming world.
In fact, the game is still so beloved that Atonement and X-Men actor James McAvoy said he had to destroy his copy of Oblivion as he was so addicted to it. Fans may be waiting for Elder Scrolls 6, but there are evidently still so many people out there who have a lot of love for some of the older games in the series.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 and backward compatible on PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
