Minecraft Fans Choose the Item-Finding Allay as the Game’s Next Mob
If there's one thing that keeps Minecraft up there as one of the most successful games in existence, it's the community that keeps showing support for it, not only in terms of creative builds, but also by influencing the game itself. At last year's Minecraft Live event, fans chose the glow squid as the next mob to be added in an update, and this year another poll went ahead. With three to choose from, the votes were tallied up, and a winner was announced recently.
In a post on the official Minecraft website, the community has voted for the allay to be the game's next mob. This creature is a companion to the player. Giving the allay an item, it will then head out to seek more of that item or something similar. The item in question could be a block, something the player has crafted, or a collectible of some kind. It's also something of a music lover and will drop the item by a note block.
The other two candidates were the copper golem and the glare. The copper golem is basically what it sounds like, a golem that players build out of copper. As a result, it will also oxidize like other copper constructions. The glare is a darkness-seeking mob, which alerts players when the area they are entering is dark enough for enemies to spawn in. A teaser clip posted a few days ago shows the glare as a floating creature that appears to be a pair of eyes hiding in what looks like a bush of some kind.
Minecraft Live was held on October 16 and featured a number of announcements and creators. The studio also introduced a learning portal, which has been put together to help those in the community build their own maps. There was also some more information about part two of the Caves & Cliffs update, with the post on the website saying that the world height is being increased, which means players can builder higher and dig deeper. Caves & Cliffs is scheduled to be released at some point towards the latter part of this year.
The continued support and patches are what make it a game with near infinite replayability and possibilities. The fan base is replete with creative minds that are keen to utilize the game's building mechanics and wow the community and developers with what they can come up with. It's unsure exactly when the allay will be introduced to the game, but it's likely to be part of the second installment of the Caves & Cliffs update.
Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
