The Witcher 3 Redux Mod Overhauls the Game | Game Rant

A new mod for The Witcher 3 is offering returning players an opportunity to experience the open-world action game in a new and exciting way. The Witcher 3 Redux mod is designed to revamp gameplay for a more "realistic and lore-friendly" experience. It's a full overhaul of The Witcher 3, from start to end, and even includes the game's two expansion packs. While the experience is smoother overall, it's also going to offer new challenges even to veteran The Witcher 3 players.

The vast majority of changes in The Witcher 3 Redux focus on progression and combat. The overall structure of The Witcher 3, with regards to questing and exploration, are largely the same. When Geralt goes into combat, however, players will experience a familiar but expanded system. "Preparation is key," in The Witcher 3 Redux, like the witchers in-game encourage. This is important to know as many of the changes and new additions to gameplay require specialization and a deeper understanding of mechanics.

The game's skill tree changes are the best way to understand The Witcher 3 Redux's design goals. Combat, Signs, and Alchemy have each been changed significantly. The Combat skill tree in The Witcher 3 now prioritizes Adrenaline much more heavily. That's because Adrenaline in the mod generates much more slowly, allowing the combat tree to offer much more powerful abilities. Signs is similarly rescaled, with low-level signs proving less useful but signs with progression investment being much more powerful. Alchemy works much more closely to The Witcher 2's combat system, and potions must be used more tactically to avoid danger. As with Combat and Signs, the new Alchemy system allows for a much more power with high investment in the skill tree.

Many other changes are also made with the mod. Some of the bigger changes include a new Fatigue system, which is a debuff meant to discourage overly defensive play. Spamming Geralt's Quen sign or defending forever will now lead to increasingly dangerous combat. In line with the "lore-friendly" goal, enemies have also been dramatically reworked. Examples include humans taking less damage, but also doing more damage, significantly stronger vampires, and so on. Players should expect most combat systems, like individual concoctions and signs, to feature changes to add more depth.

With the release of The Witcher television show on Netflix, a wave of excitement about The Witcher video games has risen up. The Witcher 3 is once again one of the top-played games on Steam with over 75,000 concurrent players. New players are experiencing The Witcher 3 for the first time. Returning players, alternatively, have the option to change the game with mods and experience it renewed. The Witcher 3 Redux may be the perfect option for those returning fans.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
