New Batman Gameplay Leak Points to Co-Op With Robin, Batgirl
Rumored leaks continue to flow from Warner Bros. Montreal's in-development Batman project. According to the latest leak, WB Montreal's new game will be expanding on a gameplay element explored in Batman: Arkham Knight by allowing gamers to play as characters other than Batman. It will even allow players to group in co-op.
There's relatively little additional information to add about the leak. The new Batman game is said to feature cooperative multiplayer that will allow players to play as members of the so-called Batfamily. It's unclear if this means that the "primary" player will be Batman and co-op partners will be other characters, or if all players will be able to pick their favorites. All the leak claims is that the Batfamily will be playable.
For those unfamiliar, the "Batfamily" is a term used to describe the assorted characters often closely associated with Batman. They include Batman's adopted children or wards, including Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, and Damian Wayne; as well as business associates like Alfred, Lucius Fox, and Commissioner Gordon. There are also over a dozen non-Robin sidekicks and spin-off characters like Batgirl, Batwoman, Spoiler, Huntress, Batwing, Bluebird, and even Catwoman.
It seems unlikely that the entire Batfamily would be playable, rather than a small selection of them. Batgirl, a Robin or two, and maybe a villain-turned-hero like Catwoman or Harley Quinn would make a lot of sense. There's definitely a possibility that the new Batman game could follow the path of Marvel Ultimate Alliance and offer a range of characters, though. At this point, no one knows what exactly to expect from WB Montreal's project.
WB Montreal's game has not been officially announced yet and so no one has any real idea what the game will be about, other than it will be a Batman-related game. Another leak that came out parallel to the co-op news is that the new Batman game will be a reboot with Arkham saga complete. That gives Warner Bros. a lot of room to experiment with new ideas, whether it be WB Montreal's Batman game or whatever Rocksteady Studios is working on.
