World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Pre-Patch is Killing Off a Major Recurring Character
Since World of Warcraft's Public Test Realm was updated to 9.0.1 yesterday, many players are getting their first taste of the Shadowlands pre-patch which includes a level squish, class changes, and another Scourge invasion. However, this pre-patch also continues right where the cinematic and story left off by revealing the fate of one particular individual. World of Warcraft story spoilers ahead.
Nathanos Blightcaller was the only human ranger trained by the high elves, and had a close bond with Sylvanas Windrunner that remained even in undeath. Since Vanilla, Nathanos has been 'Champion of the Banshee Queen,' but he recently took a more active role in Legion and Battle for Azeroth as Sylvanas' right-hand man. Following Bolvar's cinematic defeat at Icecrown, Nathanos was ordered to lay low, but both factions have finally tracked him down.
During the pre-patch, Nathanos can be found as a World Boss at his old home, Marris Stead. Getting him to low health starts a placeholder cinematic that ends with Nathanos' dead body on the ground. While it isn't initially clear what killed him, quest text from both factions reveals it was Tyrande Whisperwind who delivered the final blow.
Nathanos' fate should satisfy Alliance players for his role in recent atrocities and Horde adventurers that were constantly insulted by him as a quest giver. But in WoW, death is merely a setback, and there's a good chance they'll see Blightcaller again since his soul has just gone directly where Sylvanas and the Jailer are waiting.
World of Warcraft is available for PC.
