Among Us Recreated as Game Boy Game | Game Rant
Few other games have managed to impact the gaming community this year to the same extent as Among Us. While simple and accessible, the game has quickly cultivated an online culture of fans who have produced art, memes, and videos dedicated to Among Us. However, one creator has gone above and beyond by restyling Among Us in the format of a classic handheld game.
Though it was released back in 2018, the popularity of Among Us certainly peaked in 2020. It's hard to say what the direct cause of the sudden mainstream attention was, but one could argue that due to the impacts of COVID-19, it's a good game to play online with friends while under quarantine. It's a small, affordable game that's easy to pick up, but arguably harder to stop playing and has influenced quite a number of members of the gaming community.
Not too long ago, someone managed to recreate Among Us using Unreal Engine and gave the game extremely realistic graphics; a real departure from the game's basic art style. Although, now a YouTuber by the name of Lumpy Touch has gone backward as it were and has re-envisioned Among Us as a Game Boy game.
The classic aesthetic of the original Nintendo Game Boy does a good job of complementing the art style and design structure of the actual Among Us. If not for all of the logistical problems and lack of online multiplayer capability, one could easily argue that Among Us could have fit right in with the other classic games featured in the Game Boy's library.
In any case, it's impressive how much of an impact Among Us has made in terms of internet culture overall. In addition to this video, there are plenty of other great creations inspired by the game. One fan made a phone lock screen based on Among Us that plays a little animation of an Among Us player getting thrown out of an airlock whenever a user gets the passcode wrong.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds in terms of this game. Within the last several months, Among Us has managed to maintain a great deal of longevity, with the game arguably rivaling in popularity with other mainstream titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Hades. Only time will tell if the game somehow manages to maintain its momentum into the upcoming New Year, or of it drops off.
Among Us is available now for Android, iOS, and PC.
