Second Extinction Gets New Christmas Themed Trailer | Game Rant

Second Extinction is a 3-player co-op shooter developed by Systemic Reaction, an Avalanch Studios Group that has developed the Just Cause games. Second Extinction sees players teaming up to take down ferocious and mutated dinosaurs on a post-apocalyptic earth, and it just received a goofy Christmas-themed teaser.

On Systemic Reaction's official YouTube channel, a very short 22-second video of Second Extinction was just published. The trailer shows a raptor getting blown to bits by a rocket to the song "Jingle Bells."

On top of the video being rather abrupt and comical in nature, video game fans may recognize the voice that is singing the lyrics to the classic Christmas tune. The Duke from the Duke Nukem, one of the most beloved FPS games from the 90s, sings Jingle Bells, or in this case, Jingle Booms. The lyrics of the song are rearranged and changed to match the theme of the game and video.

Hearing Duke sing "jingle bells, raptors smell, blow them all away. Oh, what fun it is to slay, with a rocket in their face" is somewhere in between hilarious and slightly off-putting, as it is just a shocker to hear the iconic voice sing a Christmas carol. The trailer is meant to promote preseason 2 of Second Extinction, which is currently in early access. The video does end with Duke saying "in your face raptor" with his patented low-tuned and dangerous sounding voice, which sounds more in line with what fans know from the voice.

For those who have not yet seen or played the game, quickly viewing the gameplay video of Second Extinction helps detail exactly what the game is about. The footage, and now this silly jingle booms video, is a reminder that this is the same team that has worked on Just Cause. The developer doesn't seem to take its game too seriously, which can often be a nice change of pace for fans.

Spraying down dinosaurs in a chaotic post-apocalyptic world can be a rewarding time in this dino-blasting first-person-shooter. Second Extinction has received good preview scores so far, as those who have played the early access build have enjoyed it. Silly but entertaining promotions like Duke Nukem singing a Christmas song to the sight of a raptor being blown to bits will only give the game more exposure, and the result will likely be that more players give it a try. Perhaps players will spend Christmas eve singing jingle booms this year.

Second Extinction is out now in early access on Steam, with full releases headed to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
