Minecraft: Every Enchantment In The Game (& What It Does)

Enchanting in Minecraft is a way to imbue gear and books with special effects and attributes that can greatly benefit the player. To empower an item, one needs to place it upon an Enchanting Table, preferably in the company of many Bookshelves. By exchanging Experience and lapis lazuli, players can acquire these effects.

There are other methods in which to have something enchanted, such as utilizing an anvil, interacting with a villager, fishing up a random enchanted book, or even when looting dungeons and strongholds. There is a great variety to be found in this expansive world of blocks.

39 Aqua Affinity

Aqua Affinity is a helmet-only enchantment that allows the player to mine faster while underwater.

38 Bane Of Arthropods

This one empowers a sword with an effect that increases damage dealt to all arthropod enemies, such as spiders, cave spiders, silverfish, endermites, and bees.

37 Blast Protection

If one is having trouble with explosives, they should consider upgrading their armor with the Blast Protection enchantment to reduce damage and knockback received.

36 Channeling

This is one that can only be imbued into tridents. It allows the player to call down a bolt of lightning, but only during a storm.

Just be sure to do so outside and while the target is unobstructed.

35 Cleaving

Here's one that grants axes greater damage output and more impact to stun shielded foes.

34 Curse Of Binding

This is an enchantment that can only be found via treasure hunting. When applied to an item in an armor slot, it prevents that item from being removed.

33 Curse Of Vanishing

Here's a wicked one that nobody would want on their weapons, tools, or armor. Upon a player's death, any item with this enchantment will be destroyed.

32 Depth Strider

With Depth Strider on one's boots, the player can walk through the water much quicker.

31 Efficiency

This is arguably the most desirable trait to have on one's mining and harvesting tools.

It increases the speed of pickaxes, axes, shovels, hoes, and shears.

30 Feather Falling

Another Boots-only enchantment. This one reduces the damage taken from falling great heights.

29 Fire Aspect

All pyromaniacs should endeavor to acquire this trait on their swords. When striking objects or enemies, it sets them on fire.

28 Fire Protection

Whether by mining or by exploring the upper terrain, pools of lava can appear suddenly. Armor with this enchantment will help one resist damage from such threats.

27 Flame

This is the Fire Aspect equivalent for Arrows. When this enchantment is placed on a bow, any arrows fired from it will ignite their targets.

26 Fortune

This enchantment grants more drops from mining certain items. It is a great one for collecting bonus ore.

It can even allow a greater yield from crops, making it an excellent enchantment for farming as well.

25 Frost Walker

This boot enchantment will turn the water under the player's feet into blocks of ice so that they can travel across any body of water without needing to swim.

24 Impaling

Another one only for Tridents. It gives one the power to skewer undersea foes with greater damage.

23 Infinity

As the name suggests, this grants one infinite ammunition. Having this enchantment on one's bow means that it will not use up any arrows from their inventory.

22 Knockback

This is a trait that is a handy one for crowd control when facing off against multiple mobs. With clever use of the terrain, one can even do away with foes by knocking them off cliffs.

21 Looting

Looting is a great way to get more drops from mobs like Zombies and Skeletons.

Very useful for gathering bones for bonemeal or zombie flesh for potions.

20 Loyalty

This one imbues the player's trident with a recalling spell that activates if the player throws their three-pointed javelin. Loyalty will cause the weapon to return directly to the player's hand.

19 Luck Of The Sea

This one can only be applied to fishing rods and gives them the ability to dredge up better loot from the water such as enchanting books and fish while reducing how much junk is caught.

18 Lure

Another one for the fishing rod, this one decreases the wait time between when the line is cast and when a fish bites.

17 Mending

Usually to repair a tool or weapon, one needs the use an anvil. With the Mending enchantment, however, the item in question will repair itself whenever Experience is absorbed.

16 Multishot

A deadly enchantment for the crossbow, Multishot enables the ranged device to unleash 3 arrows simultaneously at the cost of 1.

Excellent for mowing down hordes of mobs.

15 Piercing

Another buff for the crossbow, this magical upgrade allows arrows to pass through multiple foes, granting the player an even more effective means to dispatch waves of foes.

14 Power

If one needs to do more damage with their arrows, enchanting a bow with Power will increase the might of the player's shots.

13 Projectile Protection

Ranged enemies can be a huge pain. This enchantment grants one a bit of relief from the barrage that can be flung at the player by reducing all incoming projectile damage.

12 Protection

Protection is the more generalized version of Projectile Protection and grants one increased resistance to all forms of attack from enemies.

11 Punch

This bow enchantment causes the player to pack more of a punch with each arrow, increasing the Knockback of each shot.

Useful if one does not desire to switch back and forth between range and melee.

10 Quick Charge

For the impatient hunter, Quick Charge lets the player drawback their bolts for faster crossbow firing.

9 Respiration

This enchantment turns ones' helmet into a diving mask by extending how long one can retain air while underwater.

8 Riptide

An exhilarating enchantment that allows the player to sail through the waves along with their trident whenever it is thrown.

7 Sharpness

This blade refinement gives one's sword more damage against all those who the player decides to do battle with.

6 Silk Touch

This enchantment is great for decoration and design.

It allows one to harvest blocks themselves instead of their drops for many novel building options.

5 Smite

Smite grants one's sword bonus damage against the many undead enemies of Minecraftia.

4 Soul Speed

If the player ever needs to cross a lot of soul sand quickly, this is the enchantment they'll want for their boots.

3 Sweeping Edge

While wielding a sword, the player will do sweeping attacks while moving slowly or standing still. This enchantment boosts the damage of these lethal slashes.

2 Thorns

This armor enchantment lets one reflect damage taken back at the attacker, not unlike a cactus.

1 Unbreaking

An excellent one to have on any item, Unbreaking decreases how quickly durability is lost, prolonging the life of one's favorite gear.
