Dr. Stone Mobile Game In Development | Game Rant
One of manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump's newer hits, Dr. Stone has slowly been growing in popularity since it debuted in 2017. Winner of the prestigious 2019 Shogakukan Manga Award for the shonen category, Dr. Stone received an anime adaptation last year, and now it seems a mobile game is in the works.
Dr. Stone comes from the same family of franchises that make up the Jump Force stable, but as of yet, no characters from the series have featured in the Bandai Namco brawler. The series is set in the far-flung future where Earth has become completely uninhabited after a mysterious light turned everyone to stone. The protagonist, Senku Ishigami, emerges from his petrified state and must rebuild society equipped only with the scientific knowledge he can remember from the past.
Details on the Dr. Stone mobile game are scarce at this time, but developer Poppin Games has said the game will be a strategy game with elements of resource collection and crafting. This sounds like a good match for the Dr. Stone world, as Ishigami is quite the strategist, and a key element of the series revolves around him crafting primitive versions of modern items. The inventions that Ishigami comes up with in the manga are likely to feature prominently in this game.
Games based on anime and manga series are quite popular in Japan, with Fate/Grand Order having been the gold standard for years. Only recently has the game seen its profits slide, as other franchises enter the market. Genshin Impact has been raking in money since its release, so the mobile market is definitely alive and well. Dr. Stone looks to enter that crowded scene sometime in 2021.
The Dr. Stone strategy game will launch on mobile devices in Japan in 2021.
