Silent Hill Creator Opens His Own Game Development Studio
Silent Hill is a series that many fans have been clinging onto since the release of the first game. A number of talented individuals put in a great deal of effort into making the earliest Silent Hill titles; games that are still beloved to this day by many in the gaming community. Now, the creator of the series has made quite a tremendous announcement.
Despite rumors of a new Silent Hill game by Konami being developed, many in the gaming community consider the series to be long dead. Though, despite the latest entry in the franchise releasing in 2012, many fans of the series still cling to the hope that one day the franchise may be revitalized in some capacity. Perhaps the move the creator of the series has made could give fans further hope of some kind of return to form.
Keiichiro Toyama, the creator and director of Silent Hill, has left the company and formed his own game studio after working at SCE for twenty years. Toyama along with a number of colleagues known for their previous work on games like Gravity Rush and The Last Guardian have begun work at their new studio called Bokeh Game Studio.
A point that gets brought up a lot in the video discussing the studio's formation is this idea of Toyama and his fellow colleagues fulfilling what their fans want, but also returning to the idea of making the games that they want to make, while not having to worry about what a larger studio like Sony Interactive Entertainment wants them to do. It seems that forming this studio is the first step in regaining their artistic and creative freedom.
However, something that many fans will be very interested to see is some of the content featured in the video. There are numerous sketches and pictures shown throughout that are very reminiscent of Silent Hill's scariest monsters. It's safe to assume at this point that whatever the studio is making will at the very least have elements of horror.
This could very well mark the return of a Silent Hill type experience. Whether the rumor of a Konami based Silent Hill game holds any water or not, it will be interesting to see what a game from the creator of the series will look like over twenty years after the release of the original game. Regardless of whether Silent Hill ever gets officially revitalized, it's nice to see that these kinds of games are starting to make a comeback, as is the case with games like The Medium and seemingly whatever Bokeh Game Studio has in store for its audience.
