Call of Duty: Warzone Verdansk Plague Event Teased In Leaked Audio Files
The popularity of Call of Duty: Warzone continues to grow, even with the current bugs and cheaters present in the experience. Part of that can be attributed to the fact that the mode is completely free to play, though on platforms like the PC it can lead to a few issues. As Raven continues to deal with the ever rising hacker issues through ban waves, dataminers have had a field day digging through the game's files and coming across new details which have yet to be mentioned from official sources.
Following the recent and controversial season 2 update, fans have begun to theorize that something big may be coming to the original Verdansk map. While the special Outbreak event brought zombies to the shores of Verdansk, fans believe even more may be on the way. Theories range from the dam breaking apart, nuking the entire map and replacing it with an 80s theme, and more. However, new evidence found within the game files may point to a different Verdansk future.
According to reputable Call of Duty: Warzone leaker ZestyCoDLeaks, Raven appears to be set in bringing a new event called Plague into the game towards the end of the current season. With the zombies quickly taking over the map following the tanker shipwreck, factions may be teaming up to stop the rising threat. New audio files paint a dire picture for the popular map, leading players to a last resort when the city is eventually overrun.
Following a datamine, ZestyCoDLeaks came across audio files from the Call of Duty: Warzone announcer revealing an interesting future for the mode. Lines include "Verdansk is overrun, take it back" leading players to drop in to take back plague zones around the map. If the mission fails, the announcer frustratedly yells, "Verdansk is lost. End it." The next audio log is pretty telling as it seems to confirm the fan made nuke theory with the audio line saying, "Extraction canceled, nuke inbound for Verdansk."
While Rebirth Island was just added last season, Season 2 appears to be the end of the road for the original Verdansk map. If the theories and audio logs are correct, players will likely be getting a brand new location to drop into when Season 3 eventually arrives. Still, even with a new pile of leaks arriving every few days, Raven Software has yet to comment on the future of Warzone, so players should take everything with a grain of salt for now.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
