Call of Duty's Ghost Voice Actor Says This is Why Dr Disrespect Was Banned From Twitch
Dr. Disrespect’s Twitch ban happened in June of last year, and while discussion on the sudden removal of the streamer’s channel has died down a bit, many are asking for answers to this day. As such, gamers have taken notice of a Call of Duty voice actor’s recent comments on the Twitch ban.
There have been several theories about Dr Disrespect’s ban, ranging from legal troubles and criminal activity to wild suggestions that he was starting a new streaming platform with Ninja and Shroud. While these rumors obviously did not pan out, fans still have no idea about what really happened, with that information likely to be kept secret by Twitch for the foreseeable future. The latest theory is a bit different than those that came before, however.
The possibility was discussed during a video on the YouTube channel DanAllenGaming. Known for featuring interviews with Call of Duty cast members, this latest piece of content was no different, as Dan Allen sat down with Jeff Leach — the voice actor for Ghost. While much of the interview sees the actor talking about his role as the fan-favorite Task Force 141 member, a particularly interesting section sees the pair talking about Dr Disrespect’s ban. Here, Leach mentions rumors he heard from “people who work at Twitch.” According to Leach, the reasoning for the ban came down to money.
Apparently, Dr Disrespect was using an offer from Mixer as leverage while renegotiating his Twitch contract, something that frustrated the company. With Mixer announcing its shutdown only a week after these discussions began, Twitch found out that Dr. Disrespect was likely lying about the Mixer offers. While there is a possibility that the offer was legitimate, it makes little sense for a dying company to offer a huge new deal to a star. Regardless, the issues were supposedly caused by either a failed attempt at trickery or a risky negotiating tactic, and Twitch cut all ties in response, refusing to deal with Dr Disrespect in any way going forward.
It is worth noting that the voice actor states several times that he cannot be certain that the information is true, though he does firmly believe it to be accurate. Considering how much money the Doc was already costing Twitch, the decision would make sense, especially if it went down as Leach described. With Twitch already having issues with Dr Disrespect and his E3 bathroom streams, the platform may have seen it as a smart business decision to move on while it had the chance.
Intriguingly, Dr Disrespect has hinted that the cause was money-related as well, though he believes Twitch was replacing him with cheaper talent. Regardless, both Twitch and Dr Disrespect seem to be doing well now, and fans needing closure could look to this theory as a potential truth.
