Sailor Moon And 2B Meet For An Epic 'NieR: Automata' Cosplay
2B did wonders to get Western audiences familiarized with the NieR franchise, so much so that NieR Replicant’s sales quickly splashed onto Automata. It’s really the same kind of effect Sailor Moon had back in the '90s to help popularize anime, especially the magical planetary girl kind, so the two seemed like the perfect match for one very creative cosplayer.
Sailor Moon still remains as popular nowadays, with the new Sailor Moon Eternal having just hit Netflix this June and merchandise for the franchise generating millions in revenue over so many years. While Sailor Moon's feminist credentials are played down today, the teenage heroes are still good enough for similar cosplay mashups involving Wonder Woman, who is by far modern pop culture’s favorite female icon.
So for a Russian cosplayer to take the colorful charm of Sailor Moon and mix it with 2B’s existentialism, it’s truly a case of pure internet glory. To achieve this, Airelle keeps 2B’s costume as the main part of her outfit, only adding Sailor Moon’s signature Moon Stick and her long blonde hairstyle to a look that’s almost purely 2B. However, the outfit features pure star power rather than a deadly katana sword. It's not exactly clear if this made-up warrior would rather have 9S or Tuxedo Mask as her companion.
As far as nailing the 2B design, Airelle’s beautiful costume is clearly up to the task, just like countless other cosplayers who have turned NieR Automata’s protagonist into the gaming icon she is today. Although 2B’s mysteriousness isn’t really there without her blindfold and hairstyle, the end result is no less impressive, even if not as heavily accessorized as the Wonder Woman mashup.
With guest appearances now running anywhere from Soul Calibur 6 to Fall Guys, 2B is truly one of the most recognized waifus for gamers all over the world, so much so that Tekken and Super Smash Bros. players would all relish at that chance of having her bring those fighting skills to their respective games. Let’s not forget that this killer french maid android can also teach players a lot about philosophy.
Airelle’s effort is completely unique, though it's far from being the only impressive cosplay on her timeline. The self-declared Witcher fan also has a great Yennefer in her repertoire, with the only con being that the Aretuza graduate does miss out on all the Sailor Moon magic, regardless of how enticing that crossover could be.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie is now available on Netflix.
